Interview with Angelo AKA ThaDawgFatha

Our team got acquainted with Angelo AKA ThaDawgFatha on Instagram in early 2023 and have since developed an online friendship over a mutual interest in New Era 59FIFTY fitteds and the culture that surrounds them. Over the years we’ve seen Angelo and his team host some crazy events under the name Fly Shit Only and really carve out their own space in the culture. Ask anyone in the Philippines and they’ll know that Fly Shit Only is the real turn up in Manila.

Firstly just wanted to say thank you for taking your time with this interview.

Angelo: My pleasure bro, thank you for having me.

Please tell us your name, what you do and where you are from?

Angelo: My name’s Angelo Quintos, aka Tha Dawg Fatha. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines. I do a lil bit of everything I’m an artist first, done a couple local and international exhibitions that not too many people really know about. But a lotta folks know me for throwing some of the biggest hip-hop party out here (Fly Shit Only). I’m really just a dot connector, bringing people, scenes, and ideas together.

Haha yeah thats sick, we’ve seen a lot of FSO and really like what you’re doing, how did it get started and how did the idea come about?

Angelo: Haha appreciate that. Honestly it just came from me and my brother loving that real house party vibe good music, good people, no extra. Fly Shit Only was really derived from 40oz Bounce and Freaknik, plus my love for hip-hop and clothes. It wasn’t really on some “do it for the culture” type thing, that always felt kinda forced to me. I just wanted something that felt organic, like how we naturally kick it, and it grew from there.

Do you have a favourite event or moment from FSO?

Angelo: Every Fly Shit Only event is important to me, it’s organic. Nothing about it feels forced it’s all built from real energy, the music we already believe in, and the culture that naturally grows around it.

One of my favourite moments from Fly Shit Only was when we started bringing international artists out here like Shordie Shordie, Nueve Lio, Mbnel, and Russell. We were already playing their music heavy in the club, so actually being able to fly them out here and have them perform in front of the same crowd that was vibing to their tracks for so long was surreal.

It really felt like a turning point for the movement. Not just watching the scene level up, but actually connecting with these artists, building relationships, and becoming friends with them along the way. It made everything feel more real and more personal.

Shoutout to Addy Papa from Toronto for making it all happen.

Another moment was definitely putting together the first ever Grey Brim Day in Asia. That one shook things up a bit, it started making noise in the community and even caught attention from New Era Philippines. Just seeing it go from an idea to something people actually showed love to was a big moment for me.

IF U DON'T GOT A GREY BRIM, ATLEAST WEAR SUMN FLY.

That's dope, speaking of New Era, what got you started with collecting New Era 59FIFTY Fitted Caps?

Angelo: I started rockin’ New Era 59FIFTY fitteds when I was like 16. At first it was just to stay fresh, but then I started peepin’ all the different colorways, team logos, and how rappers was puttin’ fits together. After a minute, it wasn’t just about wearin’ ’em no more it turned into me really collectin’ and buildin’ up the stash.

Good greys only

Can you tell us a little more about your New Era 59FIFTY collection and the inspiration behind it? Do you know roughly how many you have?

Angelo: I got really into collecting New Era 59FIFTY fitted caps, especially the “good greys.” It became more than just hats at that point, it was the whole culture around it. I got a good amount, enough where I’m not wearing the same one too often but still keeping everything in play.

Shoutouts to Mikey Phelps and THC Phi from New York RIP to him. We used to just talk for hours about hats, trade ideas, and honestly just joke around and talk shit about colored brims and other shit. I was tryna bring him out here to celebrate the 1st Grey Brim Day in Asia (Philippines) back in June 2023. Those conversations made me go deeper into the hobby and really appreciate the details behind every fitted.

It wasn’t just collecting anymore it turned into a thing I shared with people who were just as obsessed as I was. And I like putting people on, whether it’s clothes, fitteds, or music! If it’s hard or slept on, I’m probably sharing it.

For those who don’t know, can you tell us what a Good Grey is?

Angelo: A “good grey” means you’re rockin that classic New Era build: grey underbrim, white sweatband, 100% wool, flat batterman, and no side flag. When it got all that, it just look hella fresh, real clean.

OG fitted! Not the new retail stuff.

Don't forget who brought the grey brims to Manila

What's the fitted you wear the most?

Angelo: My favorite fitted? 108s for sure. I know this the 108warehouse interview so it might sound scripted, but I’m not even acting that’s really what I wear. If I reach for a hat, it’s probably a 108… like 9 times outta 10.

Merry Christmas

Rarest fitted or the fitted that was the hardest to get your hands on?

Angelo: Rarest fitted? I ain’t even gon lie, I can’t pick one it’s hella of ‘em. The ones I had to really hunt for, them the ones that hit the most. I be loving tracking stuff down, that’s really the art of collecting to me.

Sweet thanks so much for your time bro!
